Ciao from Roma! Last time we were in Italy, we were backpacking our way through Europe and even made it to a few countries in Africa. I ended up wearing one of three outfits everyday for three and a half months, and I have to say, I was never happier. I so enjoyed the freedom and clarity that came with a more streamlined approach to getting dressed.
This time around, in the interest of writing about personal style in a more compelling way than I could wearing only a handful of outfits, I packed a bit more. So when I woke up this morning, I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed at having so many choices of what to wear.
I started out thinking I'd wear all black. In hindsight, this seems like such a psychological decision given that wearing black helps me feel like I'm blending in, rather than standing out, so I can observe my new surroundings and find my bearings. Anyway, I tried the all black on, and it felt flat. So I put a white silk top over a black and white striped shirt (over the black shirt I wore initially) and ended up feeling a little more spark. I guess I defaulted to my trusted black and white until I properly find my sartorial footing here in Italy.
