Summer Bulletin: Layer Your Headwear!

Summer Bulletin: Layer Your Headwear!

As a gross generality, I often think the difference between fashion and style is found in attention to detail. When it comes to summer style (with the season now officially in swing) whether it's the weather (hot) or the setting (often involving activities requiring fewer clothes) or the more laid back demeanor that accompanies the season, there seem to be fewer opportunities to infuse an outfit with that little bit of detail that makes it special.

Enter the under appreciated real estate at the top of one's head. Why aren't we layering our cranial accessories? Here are a few instances of creative headwear layering to show us the way.

Wear a hat over a head scarf à la Elizabeth Taylor

Who said summer accessories were mutually exclusive? Here, it appears Ms. Taylor wrapped a light silk scarf around her head (under her chin) and then topped it with a straw hat.

Also, Audrey did it too! Hers was a looser scarf tucked and draped and topped with a dramatic hat!

Take a cue from Jackie: wear a bandana and sunglasses

Why choose? You can rest the sunglasses on top of the bandana or wear them together, which feels vaguely aviation-inspired and very chic. Note, when she's wearing the sunglasses, she has them over the bandana and not under it for easy transitioning on and off.

Accessorize your accessory!

Why not wrap a scarf around your head and then pin a brooch to it? Or add flowers to a hat? Or a long silk ribbon?
